Problem, I guess :/

I've liked this cute guy for a while now at school. We're pretty close friends and hang out a lot, but I really want to say something to him, but I'm doubtful. I'm in a school in the south right now and we all know how most southerners feel about gays. His family is Christian and I'm not sure how they'd feel about it, but unless my brain is tricking me, he's dropping some signs. Unfortunately, he's changing schools in May, and while we can still stay in touch through texts and all, I still really want to say something to him in person before he leaves. What should I do?
