Got stood up. Hating this whole gay thing

So I've been talking on grindr and grommr with this cute guy and he even initiated some of our conversations. I finally got to the point where I asked to have lunch with him. He seemed interested in the prospect and even excited. So we pick a place, I get all excited and the day of the date (today) I get up early to get 'date-ready'. I head to our meeting spot and I get there a little early, so I text him that I'm at the restaurant and to let me know when he's there. Proceed to browse reddit on my phone for about 30 minutes and at the point he's 20 minutes late I try calling. No answer. I check to see if he's online on grindr/grommr and he's not. So I wait till he's an hour late and see he's online on grindr. When I try opening our message it takes me back to the main page and he and the message are gone. I've been blocked. Same story on grommr. So I text him a "any particular reason you stood me up and blocked me?" text. No reply. I haven't had much luck with dating since I'm nerdy, prefer indoor solitary pastimes, and don't have an Abercrombie body, but today was the worst dating experience ever. So I ask of all of you, rather than just giving me the "it gets better, you'll find someone eventually" speech, gays of reddit who didn't meet their special someone in a bar/club or through hookup apps, tell me your stories. How did you meet the love of your life?
