I'm in love with my best friend

Ok so long story short I'm bi and I'm in deep love with my best friend. He says he's straight. All the points are pointing to that he's gay or bi.. I'm trying to stop being in love with him I've tried literally everything. From staying away from him for months that didn't work. I've tried daiting someone else but I kept thinking about him so that didn't work either. He does know how I truly feel about him. Maybe i should just ask him out? any help is much appreciated.
