Why is it LGB... and not BGL... ?
Here's my theory...It all started in the late 80's when everyone became hyper-aware of branding™ and there was an effort to unify the homosexual community under one roof.... so to speak.I remember the term at the time was, "Les-bi-gay".It was said this way because the natural word is "les-bi-an" already incorporated two ("les" and "bi") of the three primary elements of the homosexual community as it was defined at that time."Bi-gay-les" (alphabetically) didn't exactly roll off the tongue -- nor did "gay-bi-les" for that matter, etc... ;)"Les-bi-gay" ("LBG") was the original acronym -- at least it was in my circles -- which is why the "L" is first (and NOT the more logical/alphabetical "B").In the mid 90's if I recall, there was a shift to include transsexual/transgeneder ("T"), with "queer" ("Q") added shortly thereafter. As the acronym grew, "the media" flipped the B and the G ... because unless one knew of TRUE the origins of the acronym (Les-Bi-Gay), it was difficult to remember the order. That is to say, all the journalists knew it "started" with an "L" (for some reason?!)... and assumed "G" followed (given the natural tendency to group male and female together) ... with the "Bi" following the two primary genders; hence the modern day media f***ed-up version:L + G + B + T + Q + OTechnically, it's:L + B + G + T + Q + OOtherwise, it should be:BGLOQT (alphabetically, which could work i suppose)/anyhoos... just my opinion, i could be wrong ;)cheers.
