[Discussion] About Korrasami, Elsa, and hope - the implicit impact of the canonisation, and its effect on the future of LGBT characters in media

I dunno if this is just me, but for some reason, Elsa being gay just feels like it fits. I don't quite get why I think that, but until proven otherwise, Elsa is gay in my headcanon. The reason I am mentioning this here is because I had a thought about the cultural impact of Korrasami, and what this means for the future of LGBT characters in American media, especially US media whose target audience include kids.

I think the canonisation and the extremely positive response Korrasami has gotten makes it much more likely [or possible] that Elsa would be gay in Frozen 2. Frozen 2 is quite likely to be made, tbh, there is very little doubt about that. And a few years from now, a gay disney princeness? After the impact that Korrasami has made and the doors it has opened? Seems realistically possible to me, for the first time. And that's what I love about what Bryke have done here.

Elsa being gay is something that was headcanon for me, but I never even considered it ever being canon. And now, it is entirely possible that it COULD be. The existence of that possibility, and the implicit idea that that HOPE is not an empty one anymore in a post-korrasami cultural environment - that in itself is such a huge thing. I remember how unsure and doubtful we used to be about Korrasami, and by far the largest reason for that among us was the it was a same-sex pair. Now, by canonising it, Bryke have changed the cultural landscape forever.

Any thoughts?

Korra [B2E14]: "Things will never be the same again. We are entering a new age."

Btw, I just listened to 'Let it go' with that in mind, and after being used to seeing all the subtext and subtlety in Korra, holy hell the lyrics from that song work so damn well as a coming out song. I get it now why it is considered a LGBT anthem.
