I recently began filming a documentary about New Media, (webseries production/marketing, video bloggers and how they reach their audiences, etc) and if anyone who's ever shot a documentary you'll know that there's a lot you cut out for the sake of editing the story down to what you actually need. There was a trip to San Francisco I took with my friends that I thiughf "why not film it?" It was debaucharous and we acted, in simple terms, like trash (drinking and partying) however for my buddies birthday I released that footage, knowing it would never be put into the doc and somehow it got a reaction from bloggers and their followers, giving it well over twice of the views my well produced narratives get. So why is it that audiences, especially in America, are more prone to watch "trash-TV" type programming over well produced content? Is it because it's entertaining and doesn't require much story to follow? Is it because of the writer's guild strike that made writers become reality producers and therefor creating more reality content that people are so used to now? Here's the link to the snarky blog that reviewed us: http://www.boyculture.com/boy_culture/2014/12/glad-i-never-started-drinking.html CHEERS!
