Politically important or outrage fuel?

A lot of posts that get popular on this subreddit are stories of homophobia. I want to ask if this is a good thing or not. On the one hand I can see that attention need to be brought to homophobia. On the other hand I have to ask myself “Is this post actually changing anything, or is it just getting the LGBT community angry without causing any actual change?” Most of the time I tend to think the latter. What do you think?
