Is this offensive?

Hi this is my first ever post and basically i got reported by a lady on sphock to the police and sphock. It happened when I went on Shpock I went to this page and asked the seller: "hot topic: do you think mr dey is actually gay?" The seller took this as a hate crime and her child goes to the school I used to go to and the vice principle there is called mr dey. Thing is there was a rumour about him and I wanted to clear it up. And it was just a bit of light banter. Also I support the LGBT society i even went to it one time at school and I have nothing against anyone regardless of their background or orientation. Overall I am scared that something bad will happen because the woman reported it as a hate crime even though the comment has no hate in it ???? Do you think I should just move on or what? Thanks for your help :)
