A question about homosexual slurs.
I got into an argument recently about insults and particularly insults relating to sexuality.I understand how things like "faggot" are offensive. Even words like "bugger" (which I learned in reference to actual bugs like mosquitoes) and "dyke".Are words like "pansy" still offensive to the gay community in particular? What about "queer"?Because I, as an apparently ignorant straight cis male, don't recognize those as applying simply to the LGBTETC community. When I see someone called a pansy, I normally think of it as them being referred to a flower. Physically weak albeit pretty. When I see someone called queer, it's because they are genuinely acting odd. Not necessarily gay or gender-queer, but just odd. Like talking to themselves or dressing in a strange way.Are terms like queer and pansy still considered gay slurs? Or are they just insults?
