Social Isolation, California, Republican, Depression?

I would like some insight on how to deal with the social isolation of living in California, a heavily democrat populated state, of being bisexual. I recently came out to myself, and have been struggling dealing with the fact that most of my peers are in fact of a different belief system.I have a very hard work ethic, and am studying to become a software developer. Most of my peers, have no goals, smoke-and get into trouble. How do I make friends in this kind of environment? I have no outlet to turn to other than the internet.I have been going through a small depression lately where I know that it will be very hard-close to impossible-to find like minded people in my state. Those that are LGBT, generally outcast me for my political views and my hard work ethic, as well as not being "oppressed."I don't necessarily have a question, I guess I am just ranting and all that. I would really like someone's advice on what to do to make some more friends. I don't like talking about politics, but most LGBT oriented people around where I live bring it up in conversations all the time, and immediately outcast me when I show my true red color.
