Am I being too picky?

I'm a guy who is running their first year in university in Victoria, Australia. I've attended the place since the start of the year and have been in the LGBT room tons and even though a bunch approach me, they never really question my sexuality? But I chalk that up to me not talking about it much. I wonder if there's just any way to hone in on someone with my interests without it seeming like a room that is a place where everyone has dated everyone else.
