My crush is confusing the hell out of me

Hey guys, let's get right into it. So about a month and a half ago, I meet this guy, we'll call him D for short, and we hit it off instantly. So many similar interests and ideas, and he's just a genuinely nice person. We go to the same college, and hang out almost everyday. I have a huge crush on him. Problem is, I have no clue where he lies orientation wise. I know he's had some sexual encounters with women, but then he tells me how attractive he thinks Rob Lowe is, so I'm left wondering if he's bisexual, or just being objective, or whatever the case may be. I want to pursue a relationship, but I don't want to bring it up and be told that he isn't attracted to men. Even if he isn't, I'd still love to maintain a friendship with him. My biggest fear is making things irreversibly awkward and not being as close as we had become anymore. I really appreciate his presence and hopefully we can be something someday.TL;DR I love a boy who may or may not love boys too
