Gay App Guys (Grindr, Surge, A4A, etc.)

I'm relatively new to the gay app scene and pretty much over it already. Can someone please explain to me why why why guys are so vain and superficial and why you think that it's attractive? The duck lips, the endless dog filters, the makeup... I really truly don't get it. So many hundreds of profiles are exactly the same. The extreme vanity and self-obsession is a huge turnoff, I can't be the only one who feels this way.
