Dating Standards

So I’ve noticed that when it comes to dating there’s two reigning ideologies: the first takes on a free for all where everyone is entitled to their preferences and may choose to like men/women from any social spectrum because we are all equals. The second ideology is that there exists a hierarchy of individuals within society and you are only allowed to find a mate within certain areas of society but not others. With that said, my standards for men I’ve noticed are far beyond my reach, and I often like guys who are a lot better looking than I am. I know that my standards are problematic but I hate when people tell me that there’s nothing wrong with me or my preferences because there is clearly something wrong if I am constantly striving for something I can’t have.So I have to ask: Has anyone been in a similar boat as me? Has anyone had to learn to lower their standards upon realizing their place in society? Or should I keep them and hope for a lucky roll?
