A message for Taiwan

P ersucuteR ound upO utU ndermineD isassociateI say congratulations on this day. To be proud of Taiwan is to be the opposite of ashamed. It is a hailing of a triumph over the continuation of discrimination against the swathes of races, genders and ages that are tied together by oppression. Today marks another day in a sequence that will end the need to make the excuses for the ones we love and the ones we hate who speak to squash our spirit and embarrass us on any level into submission against our own sense of love. We are a day closer to holding hands in public without fear, of being open with ourselves amongst others, a day closer to not compromising on a trait that should be as mundanely inoffensive as the colour of our skin. Never again will I say I'm bisexual if I'm gay, straight if bisexual, never again let the word faggot or queer cause me discomfort less than the word nigger. I am sick of putting the thoughts of a homophobe before my own, of humoring the reasoning of ignorance as bounded to, and revolting as, racism before the oppression of myself. So well done Taiwan for realising a sense of humanity without the prerequisite of slavery or genocide to guide judgement. May others follow in there belated breakthroughs against hatred. The putrid and forced embarrassment of this branch of emotional connection has been saturated in urine for a time that is long enough, and it time to wise up and crack the back of these stale infringements. One day I will wake up less ashamed of this world than I am reccomended to feel of myself, and join in with a society in the hatred and discomfort of homophobia, other than the passing apathy akin to that felt of a racist grandparent who knows no better. It is time to realise that ignorance is just not good enough, a time to pass back the shame to a society who is not actively developing beyond its years. A time to be somewhat proud, but also somewhat bored of this drawn out dialogue we call sanity.
