Research paper/ presentation. "Gay Parents Straight Schools" Would love current and broad thoughts on a few questions.
Hello, Im reading/teaching a lesson on the book, "Gay Parents, Straight Schools" for a Early Childhood Education Class. The book was published in 1999, and our culture has changed sense the book was published. I would love some current responses and or experiences from anyone in the gay and lesbian community who has a child (or had a child) in school to comment. (mostly concerned with stories and thoughts related to the younger ages (birth through 8 years old).Copy/past to see the book on amazon: http://ift.tt/1L06XoB purpose of your responses is to bring current thoughts and ideas on this topic (as well as real voices within the community). I will pose a few questions, but if you have stories, or experiences I would love to hear them as well. Please remember that context is important, where you live, if you have a community that embraces diversity, or if you are part of a race/sub culture that is accepting or un-accepting of homosexuality.Thoughts to get you started on a response:How did your child's teachers find out about your family makeup? and would you have liked this "discovery process" to go a different way? What (if at all) do you think are negatives about raising a child in a gay/lesbian household? And what do you think are the positives of raising a child in a gay/lesbian household?Would you like your child's teacher to reach out to you for information when planning for talks on families and family makeup in the classroom? If so how would you like to be approached?Whats the thing that scares you most about being a gay/lesbian parent with a child in the school system? What signs have you seen that makes you feel like their is progress being made in schools in regards to including gay/lesbian families? Thanks so much for your ideas and thoughts!
