I met a guy at a music festival... (is he gay?)

So i met this one guys at a music festival. i asked for a cigarette and he was so nice about it and cute. We had a convo about the music we liked and found we had so much in common. The thing is, I don't know if he is gay... He gave me his number so i could hit him up if we got separated and blah blah. We texted the next day for a pretty long time. Saw him again the next day at the music stage we both liked.. he is so cute. I don't have a grindr right now or anything (blocked myself from downloading them), so its been kinda dry lately, i haven't had any intimacy in a while. I felt chemistry between us but he might have been straight, idk. THE QUESTION IS... should i ask him if he is gay? should I not ruin our relationship as techno music goers (not that EDM shit), we txt about meeting up in my city if he ever decides to come to a show. I don't know how to tell him...This is what i was gonna say "hey don't take this the wrong way, but i wanted to ask if you were gay"...It sucks not being able to develop something with someone you like because they turn out being straight...pls help.
