What do you wish your parents said to you when you were a child?

My stepson is still in elementary school. He has talked to us about moving in with his friend L when he is older. He and L would make good parents. He won a ring as a prize and he's going to bring it home to L as a present. My husband and I have remarked that perhaps this was "the moment". My husband and I (when it comes up conversationally) talk about growing up and marrying the man or woman you love, how you can be parents with the person you love. We mention our different family members who are lesbian, transgender, etc. What did you parents say to you, or what do you wish they had said? (Side note: he lives with his mom and only visits us.)
