People who struggled accepting your sexuality, how did you finally accept it?

Hey everyone, over the last several years I've struggled with my sexuality quite a bit. I'm having a hard time accepting that I may actually be gay. Reasons I've struggled to accept it is because of growing up and hearing people say its wrong, afraid of acceptance from friends and family, having people view me differently because of my sexuality and etc. How did you overcome your insecurities about your sexuality and accepted yourself?
