I think a guy is making fun of me

I have this straight friend who I have been totally mad about for like 2 years and he knows I have feelings for him and he told me he can't reciprocate them but I feel like every time I try to go further from him, to distance myself he pulls me back into this void of pain, it's like he teases me. When he feels I am distancing myself he gives me some kind of hope, like he starts being closer to me( even in a physical way, like hugs and so on). Do you think he just likes having me hooked on him, that he likes the attention?
