I wrote up an outline for anyone interested in contacting their representatives/senators on the anti LGBT Executive Order. If you aren't quite sure what to say, or don't have time to write out a full statement, I think these could make contacting your reps/senators a bit easier. Our Democracy is only powerful if we use it!Subject:Executive Order Establishing A Government Wide Initiative to Respect Religious FreedomHi, I'm contacting Senator [Enter Senator's Name Here] in regard to the Religious Freedom Executive Order that is currently being drafted, to notify [him/her] that I do not support it. As a [concerned, LGBT, etc...] citizen, I feel this executive order will allow government employees to deny LGBT individuals services, that they pay taxes for, due to said employee's religious beliefs. I believe in separation of church and state, and if religion prevents an individual from being able to do their job, they should be given the option to either leave that job, or do their duty regardless of their religious beliefs. However, being allowed to discriminate against taxpayers when providing a tax funded service is in no way a civil right. The rights of one individual end where the rights of another's begin. I am concerned that [my humanity, the humanity of LGBT individuals, etc..] will be considered debatable should this executive order pass. Thank you for your time.I also wrote something to request people to contact their reps/senatorsHi, I don't know if you've been made aware of the potential anti LGBT executive order (aka the “Executive Order Establishing A Government Wide Initiative to Respect Religious Freedom”), but, in short, it legalizes discrimination against LGBT people, not only in day to day interaction, but also in government funded services. Your tax dollars could go towards discrimination against LGBT children as well as potential parents. The draft can be found here: http://ift.tt/2jMktpY I just wanted to ask if you were interested in notifying your local representative and senators to notify them of your stance on the EO. If you don't know your representative's contact information, you can find it on www.house.gov. Your senator’s contact information can be found at www.senate.gov. The hours to call are usually between 9am-5pm. Every call counts! Thanks.Feel free to edit these/correct me as you wish! Writing isn't exactly my strong suit. Also, repost this all you want. I don't need to be credited; I just want this to spread around. If you want me to send you the formatted post to save you some time, just pm me.
