Am I supposed to simply not like anyone in high school?

I'm a gay freshman in high school and I've found myself only liking one guy throughout the whole year. I've tried to refrain from staring at him, to try not to repel him from me too much. Of course he's not gay, at least I think. He knows I am, but should I try to avoid him, tell him how I feel (uhh..no), or just casually (and by casually I mean extremely awkwardly) talk to him once in a while like I've been doing. Is this all I can do throughout high school? I know no gay people here...Thanks
