Need help on talking about the commodification of gay male stereotypes in media for paper.

Hey guys, I’m a heterosexual male writing a paper about the relation between audience and media products. One point I am trying to make is how in recent years as gay males have found it easier to come out and be themselves we have seen media come up with this whole gay best friend fashion accessory, mostly through one dimensional TV and movie characters that are more like characterchures. And then this is coming somewhat to a resolution as this TV trope is becoming less prominent and we are starting to see more genuine characters who just so happen to be gay. I was looking for any general opinions on the matter from people who this actually affected/affectsAny help would be much appreciated
