I need help

I am gay and all of my friends know but my family doesn’t, my main problem is my father because he is an accepting man but he isn’t carful about what he says, my brothers had a gay French teacher and one day my father came to the school and made waffles for whatever reason and when he was reflecting on his experience he realized that the French teacher hadn’t eaten any waffles and the first thing my dad said was, “he must be trying to keep his thighs thin” this comment perplexed me but that was ultimately when I decided not to come out, was that the wrong decision?
