Science fiction shows like Star Trek and Doctor Who are very progressive in terms of their portrayal of LGBT characters.

For example, in one episode of Doctor Who, a one-time character mentioned that she had recently broken up with her girlfriend. It was just a random remark by the character, and was treated as perfectly normal. Another example is the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode Rejoined, where Jadzia, a female character, has a romantic relationship with a one-time female character, for one episode. There are several other examples, but it just shows how progressive these two shows are. The Star Trek episode was from the 90s, so it was extremely progressive for the time. There was also a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode dealing with an LGBT one-time character.
