I don't care whether someone thinks homosexual thoughts and actions are sinful or not...

You claimed to be a Protestant in previous comments on here, I highly doubt you "don't care" about other Christians' views on homosexuality. Remember God says lying is a sin, or was He wrong about that too?

...this is the kind of disturbing, disgusting, and evil thought process that has hurt and damaged so many people's lives.

Maybe the people's lives are hurt and damaged because they are mentally ill, not because rational scientists are properly diagnosing a mental illness. Maybe they are hurt because they refuse to seek help and admit they have a problem. Maybe the blame doesn't lie on educated healthcare professionals, but rather on the people who are practicing unsafe, deviant sexual practices.

But hey, what do I know?

It took them 3 years to cave in, after violence, threats, and being constantly harassed at the hands of these people. At the end of the day, they're weighing their lives versus just saying what the homosexuals want them to say, and most of these people figured it wasn't worth it. Why bother taking on a nationwide assembly of mentally ill people hellbent on intimidating, threatening, and even killing you? It's not worth it.

Still don't believe me? That's fine, I figure that if Galileo Galilei recanted so readily to religious intimidation then the science he claimed to practice cannot be that rigorous or worthy of serious consideration. In which case anything he said about astronomy can be taken with a pinch of salt. If, however, astronomy is a serious peer-reviewed, rigorously-constructed science, then the only reason Galileo would continue to reject the idea that the earth orbits the sun is because it is supported by the science.

This line of reasoning doesn't stand up to close scrutiny.

If psychiatrists cave in so readily to political intimidation, as you are suggesting, then the science they claim to practice cannot be that rigorous or worthy of serious consideration.

Stop defending it. I'm sick of this craziness, I'm an Atheist for God's sake. You're supposed to be lecturing me like this, not the other way around.

For God's sake they assaulted church members and threw human shit at Christians. How come you're defending their behavior and I'm the one who's arguing against it? Is this Bizarro World?

Yeah right, and because roman catholic priests molested children all roman catholics are child molesters. And because a guy in my village commited suicide, I commited suicide

You said "a few assholes" in reference to the decades of homosexual protests which were spearheaded by Kameny and Gittings and emphasized by the recent German one.

Frank Kameny and Barbara Gittings

What do they have to do with your previous comment?

... in response to submission TIL of a straight Christian man who spent a year of his life as a gay man, including coming out to his family, getting a job at a gay cafe, and enlisting a friend to act as his boyfriend. The experience radically changed his view of religion and he now views homosexuality as acceptable (xpost r/TIL) posted by /u/aggie1391 at 03/28/15 20:39:14
