Advise on dating a guy in the military

So I've started talking to this guy,(Yes he's gay) in the army, stationed in Afghanistan. He's very nice and sweet from the texts we've had. But through having friends who've dated military men especially ones from the army, it never goes good for them. They're either jealous, have anger issues or go nuts all of a sudden. I don't know of any gay men in the other brunches, but I'm actually scared to start dating this guy and he snaps. But I know everyone's experiences are different and not all relations are bad. So if anyone who is currently with an army guy, can you please give me advice or how the relationship is Thank you
