Irony can be cruel, fickle, but most importantly hilarious...
So I've got a pretty open sense of humour. It doesn't matter the subject, if it's funny I'll laugh. I don't mean anything by it, I just love humour in any form. And so, I'm 23, and for as long as I knew what being gay was, my friends and I have always joked about each other being gay, making gay jokes, etc. You know, the usual. But one friend in particular usually bore the brunt of these jokes because he never once seemed to mention about girlfriends or relationships or even wanting one. So of course this was like throwing a bone to a pack of wolves in our group. He took all the jokes in good faith obviously, knowing that we didn't actually mean anything insulting. I especially ripped into him about it (constantly telling to just "come out" and admit it) because that's how our friendship goes. He insults me, I insult him, he threatens to beat me up, I call him gay. Childish crap I know, but hey, we have fun with it. It never goes any further than just general back and forth 'banter'.Anyway, this is where the hilarious irony comes into play. For the first 21 years of my life I was adamant I was straight. Never actually had a problem with homosexuals, far from it. I was just never that way inclined. But a couple years back let's just say things changed, and now I'm in a committed relationship with a guy, have been for nearly 2 months. And I'm honestly happier with him than I ever was with any girl. Of course all my friends know, I don't care what anyone thinks. I'm happy and no-one's going to ruin that. I put up with too much crap in my youth to get upset anymore. I just find it hilarious how I was jokingly telling my friend to come out constantly, never once thinking I'd be the one to be doing just that instead. Ha ha. So the irony is far from lost on me, and I just chalk it up to another one of life's funny coincidences. If you can't laugh at yourself, what can you do right? =PSorry, I know this is kind of a random post, it just occurred to me today how funny the situation actually is, and I wanted to share it. Anyone else out there have a similar experience? I'm curious to know. =)
