Hey bros: I was just looking through some statistics and demographics, as is my wont, and I ultimately just ended up bumming myself out. I live in a town of ~150'000. I took into account the male age bracket of 20-40 (~18'000 for my town), the marriage rate (42% average for my town), and an amalgamation of various official statistics on the MSM population. The men who have sex with men percentage varies greatly depending on the country of origin's statistics. For example in the US the CDC recognises 2% of the population as MSM, many European countries, such as Holland, have a higher percentage of ~5%. That results in the rough figure of 200-525 potentially single gay/bi men in my town. This of course does not take into account those in a relationship (although I imagine the same-sex marriage rate is not yet as high, so this will likely account for many non-registered relationships), as well it does not take in relational compatibility. In comparison a straight male (assuming WSW figures are similar and that such women are homo-romantic as I couldn't find as much info on such percentages) would have a potential singles pool of 10450-10780 based on the 20-40 female population bracket of the town and accounting for marriage statistics. I've always been aware that we are a minority, but somehow this rough math just makes it all a bit more depressing, especially since I am currently stuck in a small town (small in my opinion anyway). Oh well, back to grind-r :-).
