[Discuss] When you were younger, did you not know being something other that straight was a thing?

To elaborate, I didn't even know "gay" existed until the 7th grade. I'd been called all kinds of names before then but I never knew what they meant until much later. I lived in a very small town in the bible belt and always thought "girls like boys" and vice versa. It blew my mind that girls could date girls and boys could date boys. I'd never know that was a choice I had (I use the term "choice" very liberally here).I hear so many stories of "I always knew I liked the same gender" or "I had a crush on so-and-so in the second grade" that it makes me curious if anyone has experienced anything similar to my experience.
