Prostate question

I know I may sound extremely stupid but the way people describe the prostate makes me think that it's at the end of your "asshole" and that makes me think that if I go to deep I will rip or break the prostate, I've looked up pics of the inside of an anus and I still don't quite understand how you can hit the prostate but not bruise it or damage it at all.
