Is my boyfriend's text message racist or am I overreacting?

A bit of context he is caucasian and I am latino. We were having a text message argument because he has huge trust issues and suddenly he texts me this: “I’m not trying to be rude but I just know how gay men are. And I've dated Latinos my ex is Latino. It's like a hobby I think to have sex with anyone that looks at them and smile lol” It seems to me that the whole latino part is a gratuitous insult and a complete generalization, but he insists that it is just his opinion and he could not possibly be racist because he is in a relationship with a latino.
