My dad pissed some people off at a wedding.
A bit of context. I came out to my parents 6 years ago, they were very accepting and supportive, couldn't ask for better parents, yada yada. However, we the debate about gay marriage came up in France, my dad was actually very conservative and had some reserves to say the least about gay people getting married. We had our bunch of arguments and decided to leave it to restart fuck you dad, I'll get married if I want to.Now, this happened this weekend. My dad and my mom went to a distant cousin's wedding. They realised when they got there that the cousin and her groom were die hard Catholics and that they were on the verge of extremism. A few examples : Latin mass and chants, the names of the French president and of the French minister of Justice pronounced in the church by the priest to underline the fact that gay marriage is wrong, etc.My dad actually didn't stay for the whole ceremony. He left and waited for everyone outside the church. He congratulated everyone and started a discussion with the groom's parents about gay marriage and tried to explain that they were wrong. Obviously, this didn't go down well with these people and my dad left, saying that "love is love and if you can't see that God has nothing to do with people in love getting married, you're even worse than [he] thought".I am actually super proud of my dad for standing up and especially for having thought about the topic. He clearly changed his mind and i'm so so proud of him for that. You go, dad.
