Book recommendation? History of LGBT struggle for equality?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a book that is both very thorough and both very readable about the struggle for LGBT equality in the United States and around the world? I came out this year but dont feel like I really understand this history, it wasnt emphasized in school.Mainly I am looking for a book that meets the following criteriaThorough and well researchedDoesnt just explain but attempts to frame the history as a compelling narrativeDoesnt just focus on Unitied StatesIs aimed at a general audience, not solely academics or only members of the LGBT community.
