Is It Just Me or Do Most Lesbians in Popular Media Feel Like "Gay Lite?"

I don't mean this as like a diss against lesbians or anything, but anytime I see two smoking hot lesbians in any movie that will inevitably make out it always kind of pisses me off because it feels like the movie wants some socially progressive points without actually having the balls to show a relationship that will make anyone think or do anything meaningful.
